“Siri, what is speech technology?” Insights into the cutting edge of a new field. Dr. Matt Coler will first outline the two main components of speech technology:

1. Speech recognition. That is the ability of devices to recognize speech.

2. Speech synthesis. That is the ability of devices to produce speech. 

After which he will be sharing the main applications and challenges in the field. We will discuss where speech technology is heading in light of recent breakthroughs in the field of machine learning.
